Canadians intending to visit Kazakhstan must be in possession of a passport which is valid for the period of intended stay.
All foreigners must register with the local Visa and Registration Office (OVIR) within 72 hours of their arrival. Visitors who do not register may have to pay large fines at the airport upon departure. For a fee, certain hotels or your visa sponsor may assist with the registration.

Note: All foreigners planning to travel or reside in Kazakhstan for longer than three months must provide a medical certificate of a negative test for infection with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) conducted no more than one month prior to registration. The certificate must be presented within ten days of arrival. The HIV test may be performed abroad or may be done locally at the Centre for the Prevention and Control of AIDS (7 Talgarskaya Street, Almaty).
